A wounded veteran is being held in the Sedgwick County jail after being accused of stalking members of Topeka's Westboro Baptist Church.

Police pulled over Ryan Newell of Marion in downtown Wichita after he was seen following a vehicle carrying church members. The "Wichita Eagle" reports investigators found a rifle, a handgun and more than 90-rounds of ammunition in the suspect's car.

The 26-year-old Newell told authorities he was providing security for the church members and that he was a reserve police officer. When that didn't check out, they arrested him.

Newell has been booked into jail on suspicion of stalking and false impersonation. His bond was set at $500,000.

I think it is very funny that this chruch of self-proclaimed idots can DISRESPECT funerals of our Military and get away with it but you let someone follow them and this is what happens. What a joke of justice. This chruch is made up of mainly of fred phelps family. As to the false impersonation of a cop, what about the one that wear the MEDAL of Honor, that have never severed in the military at all, but it is ok for them to do that for their freedom of speech. That is considered false impersonation of a military hero. Will they do anything about that? NO!!!

500,000 for stalking and impersination seems kinda high to me.....I wonder if there are some other suspicions here? Either way I agree this group is a bunch of whack jobs but its no excuse for murder if those were his intentions.

How about KSAL or the Salina Journal set up a defense fund for this guy? I beleive there would be lots of dollars to support him.

I understand that there are several lawyers who are wanting to represent him, and I am assuming that they want to do it, just because.
