Authorities stepped up their search for an inmate who escaped from the Kearny County Jail on Monday, according to reports in the "Garden City Telegram."

Officials say 27-year-old Mitchel Ebihara of Garden City was being held on charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery. He escaped Monday night by overpowering the jail's only corrections officer.

On Wednesday, roadblocks were set up in the towns of Lakin and Deerfield. A Kearny County sheriff's spokesperson says officers checked all vehicles traveling into and out of both cities. Officials investigated several leads but by Thursday had not located Ebihara.

Officials believe he was still in the area Thursday.
