A Salina high school student is in trouble after allegedly bringing a gun to school.

Police say that a tip to the school resource officer at Salina South High School led to the discovery of a handgun. Police believe that 16-year-old Korrey Rinke had a gun at school Tuesday morning, and later hid it at Jerry Ivey Park across the street from the school.

Police found a .32 calibre revolver hidden in a bust at the park.

Rinke was arrested and booked into the Saline County Juvenile Detention Center on charges that could include illegally carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

Saline Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield credits an "alert, responsible student" for coming forward with information that helped the school resource officer resolve the case without anyone being hurt.
