Salina Police Chief Jim Hill (left) and I 135 / I 70 Drug Task Force Commander Lt. Jim Norton discuss "Operation Full Throttle" with the media.
A 7-month-long drug investigation in Salina dubbed "Operation Full Throttle" ends Monday with about 95 law enforcement officers from multiple agencies gathering in Salina, executing 10 search warrants and making 16 arrests.
During execution of the search warrants, agents seized: 266 grams (9.5 ounces) of methamphetamine, 2,390 grams (5.25 pounds) of marijuana, $12,100 in U.S. currency (believed to be drug proceeds), and eight firearms. One of the firearms seized was an illegal sawed off shotgun, and another was identified as reported stolen.
Salina Police Chief Jim Hill says that citizen tips to the I 135 / I 70 Drug Task Force about possible drug activity started the case. Chief Hill says that about two pounds of methamphetamine was coming into Salina on a weekly basis.
Police say that numerous individuals involved in the distribution and use of illegal drugs, as well as wholesale suppliers of methamphetamine, were identified during the investigation.
Those arrested range in age from 35 to 14. Chief Hill says that perhaps most disturbing was the arrest of a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly selling marijuana.
