A new organization called the Kansas Forestry Association has been formed.

It includes the combined memberships of the Walnut Council of Kansas and the Kansas Tree Farm Committee. The group's formation follows two years of debate and planning. The goal is that having one organization will allow members more complete access to information, assistance and services available to support tree farming in Kansas.

Bob Atchison is the rural program coordinator for the Kansas Forest Service. He says individual Kansans own 95 percent of the state's 2.1 million forested acres.

There are 103,000 forest landowners in Kansas.
