This weekend features a full weekend of hoops action with most teams in action, and several area teams playing in tournament play. Here is a look at what is going on around the area today and tonight.
Salina Central vs. Great Bend
Sports Radio 1150-AM KSAL
Pre-game begins at 5:45 p.m.
The Mustangs were lucky as they did not have any other games scheduled this week so they will not have to try and fit any more games into their schedule later this year, unfortunately for the Mustangs the USD 309 does not allow practice when school is not in session so two days of work were lost. On the girls' side Great Bend in the number two team in the state and went 2-1 at the Hays City Shootout. The Lady Panthers grind-it-out defensive style will challenge the Lady Mustangs and if they do not protect the basketball it could be a long night in what will most likely be a low scoring contest. On the boys' side expect an uptempo shootout just like the Mustangs want. Great Bend is 2-1, however the Mustangs have the size advantage inside and the Panthers have shown themselves to be inconsistent offensively.
Salina South vs. McPherson
Y 93.7
Pre-game begins at 5:50 p.m.
The Lady Cougars and Lady Bullpups is one of the premier girls match-ups in the state tonight. Last year McPherson had a very young team that had to take their lumps early in the season, however almost that entire team is back and looks to be much improved with a year of experience under their belts. Mac has also added a six foot freshman underneath, providing some competition around the rim for Taylor Goodness. On the boys' side it looks like South will match-up well size with McPherson's undersized team, however if they do not limit their turnovers the intensity of the Bullpups will be too much for the Cougars to handle.
Sacred Heart vs. Southeast of Saline (Herington Tournament)
Classic Hits 104.9
Pre-game begins at 3:50 p.m.
All four teams involved in these games opened up their seasons with wins and if these two league foes are not already very familiar with one another they will have plenty of chances to become so, as this is just he first of three meetings between the Trojans and the Knights this season. The Sacred Heart boys are looking to improve their defense, while the Southeast of Saline girls look to have adjusted well to the graduation of Stephanie Frost. Look for a pair of exciting games tonight.
