Salina Central - Derby

The Salina Central girls had not trouble at all as they jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first 15 points against the Lady Panthers and never looked backed in route to a 62-21 win. Central also forced 31 turnovers in the contest, while Courtney Wiggins led the team with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebound. The Lady Mustangs are now 1-2 (1-0) on the season and will square off against rival Salina South Friday at the Bicentennial Center. In boys' action it was Salina Central 52 and Derby 50 in a tight contest. Central trailed by ten at the half but was able to retake the lead in the third quarter and then held on for the victory. Central improves to 1-2 (1-0) on the season.

Salina South - Maize

The Salina South Lady Cougars did not play their best game of the year, but they did play just well enough to get the win against Maize 50-30. The Lady Cougars struggled from the field early, leading only 11-4 after one, but despite 22 turnovers in the game South used it's athleticism to slowly pull away from the Lady Eagles. South is now 3-0 (1-0) and will battle Salina Central at the Bicentennial Center Friday night. In boys' action the Cougars came out scrapping against Maize, however the undefeated Eagles proved too much for South. South trailed by only three points after the first quarter, 14-11, and led for a brief moment at 16-14 with just under six minutes to play in the second. A 9-4 run put Maize right back on top and they never looked backed, leading by as many as 32 points. South is now 0-3 (0-1) on the year.
