Margie Nelson, 87, of Galva, KS, passed away at 2:07 a.m., Tuesday, October 2nd, peacefully, at Angel Arms, McPherson.
Margie was born in Empire Township, Kansas on June 5, 1925, a daughter of the late Anna (Nightingale) and Dan A. Becker.
Margie attended and graduated from the North Liberty Country School in McPherson County and graduated from Galva High School, Galva, Kansas.
She was a member of Galva Christian Church Galva, Kansas. Margie was a member of the Canton Christian Church when they lived in Canton, Kansas. There she lead the Church Choir and served as Treasurer for many years.
Margie was a homemaker and during W.W. II she worked at an ammunition plant in DeSoto, Kansas in the black powder room to do her part during the War.
Margie and her husband Gene owned and operated the Farmers Market grocery store in Galva from 1949 until 1960. They bought their second grocery store, Nelsons Food Bowl in Canton, Kansas in 1957 and ran it until they sold it in 1973. In 1974 Margie and Gene bought and ran the Canton Locker until they both retired in 1989. They worked side by side for over forty years.
Margie was a member of the Kansas Meat Processors Association.
Margie Becker was united in marriage to Ray Gene Nelson on May 20, 1946 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Salina, Kansas. He died on January 3, 1996.

Drew Turner and her husband Tyler, of Hohenfels, Germany
Taryn Nelson, of McPherson, Kansas
Five great-grandchildren: Caden Tate, of San Antonio, Texas
Skyler Bowan, of Moundridge, Kansas
Kaleb Bowan, of Moundridge, Kansas

Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gene, brothers: Marvin, Orlie, and Gene (Jim) Becker; sisters: Elma Becker, Hazel Becker, Evelyn Koehn.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday, October 4th 2012 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.
Funeral service will be held at Galva Christian Church, Galva, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 5th, with Reverend Tripp Edwards and Pastor Phil Radatz officiating.
Final Resting Place will be in the Empire Cemetery Galva, Kansas.
