DeVerne D. Schmid, 80, Salina died Friday, January 18, 2013. He was born Nov. 28, 1932 at Hope, KS to Henry and Dora (Weber) Schmid.
He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Shadybrook), Herington, KS. He was united in marriage July 27, 1958 to Loretta Derley in Belpre, KS.
DeVerne was an asphalt paving foreman for Brown & Brown, Inc., later retiring from APAC-Shears, Salina Division and known by his crew as Schmeed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Crane, Abilene.
He is survived by:

Son: Richard (Rhonda)
Daughter, Debra (Sam Piper)
Grandchildren are: Alysia (Tyler) Johnson, Mission, KS
Kyle Schmid, Manhattan
Kale Schmid, Assaria
Great granddaughter: Lindsey Fielder, St. Marys
Brother: Larry (Jan) Schmid, Hutchinson
DeVerne was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at 10:00 am.
Burial will be in the Gypsum Hill Cemetery.
Family will be present Tuesday evening from 6-7 pm at the Ryan Mortuary, where friends may call.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, Flywheels Yesteryear Museum or Harden Hospice of Salina.
