Josephine (Jo) L. HockingJosephine (Jo) L. Hocking of York, NE, formerly of Salina, KS, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 1, 2013. Jo was born on June 29, 1923 in Eldorado, KS to Edward and Cecil Hurlburt.

She was married to Allan Hocking in August of 1944 sharing 55 years of marriage before his death in 1999. Together, they farmed west of Salina and raised six children.

Mrs. Hocking was involved in her childrens school and sports activities. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Salina, the Friendly Neighbor Club, a board member of the YWCA and president of the YWCA in 1974 and 1975. Her church membership was transferred to the First United Methodist Church of York, NE, where she was also a member of PEO Nebraska Chapter A.

She enjoyed music, reading, needlepoint and playing bridge.

She is survived by:

Sheryl (Jerry) Brown of Salina, KS
James (Connie) Hocking of Brookville, KS
Rita (Kelly) Thomas of York, NE
David (Elle) Hocking of St. Louis, MO
17 grandchildren
7 great-grandchildren
Sister: Barbara (Stuart) Campbell of Sacramento, CA
Jack (Jo) Hurlburt of Redding, CA

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by son Ronald Hocking and granddaughter Kristina Hocking.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 8th, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Salina with burial following at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held at Roselawn Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina on Thursday, February 7th, from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. with family receiving relatives and friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Kilgore Memorial Library, York, NE.

Jo will be greatly missed by her family. She was a role model for a life well-lived with great courage and strength, character and good cheer.
