It wasn't quite the record turnout at the polls Tuesday in Saline County that was anticipated. Local turnout was 61 percent.

Tuesday's election in Saline County included a fewer number of voters than anticipated, re-election of local incumbents to the state legislature, new blood for the county commission, the longest serving sheriff in local history, and overwhelming passage of a sales tax issue that promises economic development including a brand new aquatic center for Salina.
New faces will make up two thirds of of the Saline County Commison. After defeating incumbent Craig Stephenson in the Primary Election, Republican John Reynolds defeated Democratic challenger Sidney Schultz. Jerry Fowler defeated incumbent Sherri Barragree in the primary, then Democrat Marlysue Holmquist.
All three Salina area incumbents in the Kansas House of Representatives, Charlie Roth, Deena Horst, and Josh Svaty won re-election Tuesday. State Senator Pete Brungardt also won re-election.
After winning re-election Tuesday night, Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski will become the longest serving sheriff in Saline County History. Voters overwhelming elected Kochanowski to a fourth term.
Voters Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a sales tax that will fund a new aquatic center in Salina.
